Choose the Right Screen, Battery or Back Glass for Your iPhone

A repair should suit your phone, your priorities and your budget. At NXT GEN, we explain the parts available for your iPhone so you can choose with confidence — whether you want a practical lower-cost repair, the viewing experience of OLED, genuine Apple screen or battery parts, or a choice of copy and original back glass.

This guide explains the option numbers you may see when booking. Available choices depend on your model and the repair required. Not sure which to select? Tell us how you use your phone and we’ll help you compare them.

Your screen options at a glance

OPTION 1

Value LCD

A budget-friendly aftermarket display for customers who want to prioritise the repair cost. On a phone originally fitted with OLED, this changes the display technology to LCD. Colour, brightness and thickness can differ from the original display; some replacements may sit slightly higher in the frame.

Best suited to: keeping costs down while getting your phone usable again.

Part origin: aftermarket; not a genuine Apple display.

OPTION 2

Aftermarket soft OLED

For supported OLED-equipped iPhones, soft OLED offers an alternative that keeps OLED display technology, with fit and dimensions closer to the original than a budget LCD conversion. A useful choice when your viewing experience matters and you want to compare the cost with genuine Apple parts.

Best suited to: balancing the repair cost with an OLED screen experience.

Part origin: aftermarket; not a genuine Apple display.

OPTION 3

Genuine Apple display

A genuine Apple replacement designed for the specifications of your iPhone model. NXT GEN can source genuine Apple parts through our Genuine Apple Parts Program route where supported and available.

Best suited to: customers who prioritise genuine parts and the model’s intended display specification.

Part origin: genuine Apple.

Our advice: start with your iPhone model, then decide what matters most — price, screen experience or genuine parts. We’ll explain the available choices before you approve the repair.

LCD and OLED: what will you notice?

OLED lights its pixels individually, helping produce deep blacks and strong contrast. LCD uses a backlight. If you watch videos, edit photos or use dark mode often, keeping OLED on an originally OLED-equipped iPhone can be an important part of your choice.

LCD is also the original technology in several iPhones, including iPhone XR, iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). A genuine Apple screen can therefore be LCD. “Genuine” describes who made the part; “LCD” and “OLED” describe the display technology.

Soft OLED is an aftermarket OLED construction using a flexible substrate. It does not mean that your repaired phone or its glass can be bent. It also does not mean every soft OLED matches every feature of the original Apple display. Ask us about the particular part available for your model, including brightness and refresh-rate support where relevant.

Your battery options at a glance

OPTION 1

Aftermarket battery

A lower-cost replacement option to help you keep using the iPhone you already own. We’ll explain compatibility and what to expect from Battery Health and any parts information on your model before the repair.

Best suited to: customers prioritising the repair budget.

Part origin: aftermarket; not a genuine Apple battery.

OPTION 2

Genuine Apple battery

A genuine Apple replacement designed to work with the iPhone’s battery reporting system, available for supported models through our genuine-parts route.

Best suited to: customers prioritising genuine parts and Apple’s battery integration.

Part origin: genuine Apple.

A replacement can help when an ageing battery no longer holds the charge you need. If the problem comes from charging hardware, software or another fault, a battery alone may not resolve it. We assess the symptoms to help you choose the right repair.

Understanding Battery Health

Battery Health compares the battery’s maximum capacity with its capacity when new. As a battery ages, it can hold less charge and may deliver less peak power. A replacement can help with reduced runtime and performance affected by battery ageing.

Look in Settings > Battery for Battery Health or Battery Health & Charging; wording varies by model and iOS version. Tell us about a service recommendation, unexpected shutdowns or the need to charge more frequently. These details are useful alongside the percentage.

With an unverified replacement battery, Apple says Battery Health information may not be accurate. We’ll explain the reporting expected for the option available for your phone. Your usage, apps, signal and settings also affect how long a charge lasts, so there is no single runtime that applies to everyone.

Your back-glass options at a glance

Cracked rear glass? NXT GEN offers copy and original back-glass replacements for supported models. We help you compare the available choices, colour and price before you approve the repair.

OPTION 1

Copy back glass

An aftermarket replacement for customers who want to prioritise the repair cost. We explain the finish, colour match and fit of the available part for your model.

Part origin: aftermarket copy.

OPTION 2

Original back glass

An original replacement for customers who prefer original back glass. We confirm the part available for your model, its colour and the repair price before you choose.

Part origin: original.

We assess the rear glass, frame and surrounding damage to confirm the repair required. Ask us which copy or original option is available for your device.

Careful fitting, clear advice and support

Whichever option you choose, you’re dealing with an independent, family-run business trusted since 2013. We assess the device, explain the repair and confirm the quote for your approval.

We always replace the screen adhesive after a repair and take care with fitting. We check the functions relevant to the work, using Apple diagnostic tools where applicable. Our repairs include a three-month warranty, subject to our terms.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose copy or original back glass?

Yes. Back-glass Option 1 is copy (aftermarket); Option 2 is original. We offer these choices for supported models. We confirm availability, colour, price and the repair required for your device before you decide.

Will True Tone work after a screen replacement?

True Tone adjusts the display’s colour balance to surrounding light. Support after repair depends on your iPhone, replacement display and the repair process. Tell us if True Tone is important to you so we can explain what to expect from the available option.

Does soft OLED keep every feature of my original screen?

It keeps OLED technology on compatible models, but the specific replacement determines the result. OLED alone does not establish that features such as the original refresh rate or maximum brightness are matched. We can discuss the particular part before you book.

What does an “Unknown” part message mean?

On supported iPhones, Settings > General > About can show Parts and Service History. An “Unknown” label can mean a part is aftermarket, has not been verified and linked, or is not working as expected. The label alone does not diagnose the cause. Apple says display and battery parts messages do not themselves prevent use of the phone. We’ll explain the expected parts information for your repair.

What do “Genuine”, “Used” and “Finish Repair” mean?

“Genuine” identifies an Apple part installed using Apple’s processes. On supported models, “Used” identifies a genuine part previously installed in another iPhone. “Finish Repair” means the relevant repair completion process remains outstanding. The information shown depends on the model and iOS version.

Is NXT GEN an Apple Authorised Service Provider?

NXT GEN is an independent repair business with access to genuine Apple parts through our Genuine Apple Parts Program route. We are not an Apple Authorised Service Provider. Ask us about supported genuine-parts repairs and our own repair warranty.

Does fresh screen adhesive make the phone waterproof?

Fresh adhesive is part of our careful repair process. Water resistance also depends on the device’s condition and other seals, and it decreases with wear. A repair does not guarantee the original water-resistance rating, so continue to protect your phone from liquids.

Could the replacement part affect a future trade-in?

Different buyers and trade-in providers use different criteria. Apple notes that an “Unknown” part can affect trade-in value. If you expect to trade in your phone, mention it when comparing parts so you can weigh the repair cost against your future plans.

Can I have the screen and battery repaired together?

Tell us about both when booking or contacting us. We can check the available parts and give you a quote for the work required. Any combined price or turnaround will be confirmed for your device.

How much does each option cost, and how long will it take?

The price and turnaround depend on your iPhone, the part selected and any additional damage. Start with our booking system or contact us for the available choices. We confirm the quote and expected timing before the repair proceeds.

How should I prepare my iPhone?

Back up your photos and other important data before a repair if the phone allows it. Note your model, symptoms and any existing parts messages. We’ll guide you through any preparation relevant to the repair. Keep your Apple Account password private and enter it yourself if an account step is needed.
